Use, possession, manufacturing or distribution of any illegal drug or controlled substance (without valid prescription) is strictly prohibited.  Individuals found in violation will face disciplinary and criminal action.

Appliances

Each room may only have ONE refrigerator (no more than 1.7 amps) and ONE microwave (no more than 900 Watts).  You may also bring a television, stereo, and computers.  Coordinate with your roommate to save space.

No appliances that are potential fire hazards such as George Foreman grills, toasters, toaster ovens, sandwich makers, space heaters, hot plates, crock pots, waffle irons, etc.  are allowed.  In addition, candles, incense, dartboards and ceiling fans are also not allowed.

If you have a question about whether an item is approved, please ask your RLC or RD.  When in doubt, don't bring it.

Beds & Bedding

There is one bed per resident.  All buildings with the exception of Bowdon Hall have bunkable beds.  Lofts are no longer permitted in any of the buildings.

No linens are provided.  Please check the buildings' webpages for mattress sizes.  A mattress pad is also a good idea.

Candles & Incense

Candles and incense are serious fire hazards and are NOT permitted.  There are many items on the market that can help make a room smell better.  Aerosol sprays are not recommended as they can sometimes set off the building smoke detectors.

Computer/Internet

There is an Internet connection provided for each resident in his or her room.  You will need an Ethernet card installed in your computer and an Ethernet/networking cable to connect your computer to the Internet jack.  Newer computers usually have the Ethernet card already installed

Curfew/Visitation

There is no curfew for students.  However, there are visitation hours for the opposite sex in the traditional residence halls; Sunday-Thursday 10AM-12AM and Friday & Saturday 10AM-2AM.  Tyus Hall, University Suites, and Arbor View Apartments have 24 hour visitation. However, in all buildings, a resident of the building must escort all guests at all times.

Drawers & Closets

Space varies in each building.  Each student is provided one small set of drawers and one modest closet.  We encourage students to limit the items they bring until they can determine how much space is available.  You may bring additional storage containers or shelves but remember that they must also be able to fit in the room.  All shelves, etc. must be freestanding, that is they must not be screwed, nailed, glued or otherwise attached to the walls, floor or furniture in anyway.  You may only line the drawers with removable contact paper.

Food

All freshmen who live in campus residence halls are required to purchase a meal plan.More information can be obtained from the Auxiliary Services Office in the University Community Center. If students choose to have food in the room, please make sure it is properly secured so as to not attract pests. There is a small kitchen for student use in each building, complete with stove, oven, microwave and sink.

Furniture

Furniture found in the room when you arrive must stay in the room.  You may not alter it in any way.  Resident will be charged for damages or alterations discovered when they check out.

Moving In/Out

Bring only the things that you will need or really want.  Remember you are sharing a room and will need to fit everything you bring in half the space.  Coordinate with your roommate.  Who is bringing the TV, refrigerator, microwave, stereo?

There are no elevators in most of the buildings.  It may be helpful to bring a handcart or pack smaller boxes and bags that can be carried up stairs.

Noise/Quiet Hours

Anyone in the hall should be able to sleep or study at any time.  That means everyone needs to be respectful and keep the noise to a minimum at all times.  We know everyone likes to have fun and hang out with his or her friends, but this can sometimes be extremely disruptive to the other members of your hall.  Quiet hours, with little or no noise are each day from 10PM-8AM.

Pets

The only pets you may have are fish in a tank less than 10 gallons.  Anything that could "escape" or cause allergic reactions in other residents is not permitted.

Phone

There is one phone line per room with two hook ups.  Caller ID, call waiting, and conference calling is provided however, there is no long-distance service.  Local calling area codes include 770, 678, 470, and 404.  We recommend using cell phones or calling cards if long distance calls need to be made.

Smoking

Smoking in any building on campus is AGAINST THE LAW, this includes the residence halls.  There designated smoking areas outside each building.  State law requires that smokers must remain at least 20 feet from the building.

Television/Cable

Cable is also provided in each room.  There is only one cable jack.  In addition to basic cable channels, on-campus residents have their own movie channel.  ResView (Channel 20) will continually run residence hall information, employment opportunities, campus events and BOX OFFICE MOVIES, many of which are recent releases.

Wall Decorations

You may not paint the walls or the ceilings.  You may hang posters, pictures, or other decorations with removable tape.  Do not use nails, push pins, duct tape, poster putty, double-sided foam tape or any other items that may leave residue or damage the paint or walls.

Weapons

Any item used for the purpose of offense or defense is considered a weapon and not allowed anywhere on campus, not even in your vehicle.  This includes paintball guns, BB guns, pellet guns, dart guns, knives, slingshots, numchucks, billy clubs, brass knuckles, crossbows or any device intended as a weapon.  Individuals found in possession of a weapon will face criminal and disciplinary action.
